{This Lesson would be translated into Sinhalese & published later!}

# When the predicate is a transitive verb, it takes an Object.

Shakespeare wrote The Tempest.

# Some transitive verbs take two objects, a Direct Object and an Indirect Object. For example:—

My mother taught me regard for religion.

The chairman told the audience a laughable story

The owners refused us permission to enter.

In these sentences the words in bold are called Direct Objects, and the words methe audience and us form the Indirect Objects.

How to recognize Direct Object and Indirect Object.

Direct Object = The person or thing that is affected by the action.
Indirect Object = Refers to the person or thing that something is done to.
