“Ought” Yana Kriyapadaya - “ඔව්ට්” යන ක්‍රියාපදය - The Verb "Ought" 


මුල දී (මුල් කාලයේ දී) 'අයිති වෙන්නට (ඇති)' යන තේරුම සහිත "ඕ" යන ක්‍රියා පදයේ අතීත කාල ස්වරූපය වන "ඕට්" හි දැන් තේරුම නම්, 'යටත්ව බැඳී සිටින/ඇති හෝ අවශ්‍යයෙන් ම කළ යුතු' යන්නයි. "ඕට්" සෑම විට ම කරණීය බව (කළ යුතු බව) හෝ යුතුකම ගම්‍යමාන කරයි. "ඕට්" ට පසුව වර්තමාන කාල තුමන්ත ක්‍රියාපදය (භාවක්‍රියාව) හෝ පරිපූර්ණ භාවක්‍රියාව යෙදේ.

Ought is the past tense of the verb owe, which originally meant ‘to own’, and now means ‘to be under obligation’. Ought always implies duty or obligation. It is followed by a present infinitive or a perfect infinitive.

ඔබේ බෙල්ලේ ඇති වේදනාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් වෛද්‍යවරයෙකුගෙන් දැනමුතුකම් ලබා ගැනීම ඔබ කළ යුතු ය.
ඔයාගේ බෙල්ලෙ අමාරුවට වෛද්‍ය උපදෙස් ලබා ගැනීම ඔයා අවශ්‍යයෙන් ම කළ යුතුය.
You ought to consult a doctor about that pain in your knee.

ඔහු එසේ හැසිරිලා නොතිබුණා නං.
එයා ඒ විදිහට හැසිරෙන්නේ නැතිව හිටියා නම්.
ඔහු එසේ නොහැසිරී සිටියා නං.
He ought not (oughtn't) to have behaved like that.

Ought = ඔව්ට් / ඕට්.
