The subject may be a noun, a pronoun, or any word or words used in place of a noun.
1. A Noun.
Mother is calling you.
Giraffes arc very tall.
2. A Pronoun.
You are a little late.
We have caught a squirrel.
3. A Verbal Noun (or Gerund).
Smoking is unhealthy.
4. An Adjective used as a Noun.
The blind are to be pitied.
5. An Infinitive.
To walk all the way will tire you.
6. A Phrase.
Slow and steady wins the race.
