Pradhana Kriyapada saha Apradhana Kriyapada - ප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියාපද හා අප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියාපද - Principal Verbs and Auxiliary Verbs.


ප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියාපදය = Principal Verb = Main Verb / Primary Verb / Lexical Verb / Full Verb = පූර්ණ අරුතක් දීමට හෝ ප්‍රකාශ කිරීමට, තනිව පෙනීසිටින ක්‍රියාපදය.
{ Principal Verb = Main Verb / Primary Verb / Lexical Verb / Full Verb = A verb standing alone to give or express a full meaning.}

අප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියාපදය = උපක්‍රියා පදය = Auxiliary Verb = Modal Verb / Helping Verb = පූර්ණ අරුතක් දීමට හෝ ප්‍රකාශ කිරීමට, තනිව පෙනී නොසිටින [/ තවත්(ප්‍රධාන) ක්‍රියා පදයක් අවශ්‍ය] ක්‍රියාපදය.
{ Auxiliary Verb = Modal Verb / Helping Verb = A verb needs another verb to give or express a full meaning.}

උපක්‍රියා පද යොදා ගැනීම සුලබ දසුනකි. සරල වර්තමානකාල ක්‍රියා වාක්‍ය හා සරල අතීතකාල ක්‍රියා වාක්‍ය හැර, අනෙතුත් කාල ක්‍රියා පද වාක්‍ය තැනීමට උපක්‍රියා පද යොදා ගැනේ. උපක්‍රියා පදයෝ නම්: Be, Have, Shall, Should, Will, Would, May, Might, Do හා Did, Can සහ Could වෙති.
{The Auxiliary Verbs are very common. They are used to form other tenses than the Simple Present and Past. They are the following: Be, Have, Shall, Should, Will, Would, May, Might, Do and Did, Can and Could.}

උපක්‍රියා පද පෙනී සිටිනුයේ, ප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියා පද ඉදිරියෙන් ම පමණි.
{Auxiliary Verbs can occur only before Principal Verbs.}

පෙළක් වෙලාවට, ඇතැම් උපක්‍රියා පදයෝ, ප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියාපයෝ ලෙස ද පෙනී සිටිත්.
{Sometimes, some Auxiliary Verbs can also stand as Principal verbs.}
පහත වාක්‍ය දෙස බලන්න - Look at the following sentences.

1. Kanishka does his work regularly, and we do ours.
කණිෂ්ක නිතර ම පාහේ ඔහුගේ වැඩ කරයි; එසේම අපි ද අපේ වැඩ නිතර ම පාහේ කරන්නෙමු.
2. Shashini has a new pen, and we have new pencils.
ශශිනි සතුව අලුත් පෑනක් තිබේ; අප සතුව අලුත් පැන්සල් ඇත.
3. Kanishka does not attend class regularly, and we don’t either.
(Kanishka does not attend class regularly, and we too do not attend class regularly.)
කණිෂ්ක නිතර ම පාහේ පන්තියට සහභාගී නො වෙයි; එමෙන් ම අපි ද නිතර ම පාහේ පන්තියට සහභාගී නො වන්නෙමු.
4. Shashini has lost her new pen, and we have lost ours too.
[Shashini has lost her new pen, and we have also* lost our new pen(s).]
ශශිනිගේ අලුත් පෑන නැතිවෙලා (තිබේ); තව ද අපේ අලුත් පෑන/පෑන් ද නැතිවෙලා (ඇත/තිබේ/නැතිවී ඇත).

වාක්‍ය 1. සහ 2. තුළ ඇති, does, do, has, හා have ප්‍රධාන ක්‍රියා පදයෝ වෙති.
{In sentences 1. and 2., the verbs does, do, has, and have are Principal Verbs.}

වාක්‍ය 3. සහ 4. තුළ ඇති, does, do, has, හා have අප්‍රධාන (උප)ක්‍රියා පදයෝ වෙත්.
In sentences 3. and 4., the verbs does, do, has, and have are Auxiliary  Verbs.

ගෙදර වැඩ: ඕනෑම තැනක/විටක දී, ප්‍රධාන හා/හෝ අප්‍රධාන (උප)ක්‍රියා පද යොදා ගන්නා සෑම විටකදී ම, ඒවා හඳුනා ගන්න / තේරුම් / සටහන් / ලැයිස්තුගත කරගන්න.
{Homework: Find/note/figure out/list/observe carefully, whenever/wherever Principal Verbs and/or Auxiliary Verbs are used.}

Note: also* "WORD CHOICE: also, too, as well, either also, too and as well can be used in many of the same contexts : She's a valued colleague, and a great friend too OR and a great friend as well OR and also a great friend. 

also is the most formal and the most likely to be used in formal writing such as reports. as well is the most informal and the most likely to be used in speech. 

!! too is never used at the beginning of a clause. Also is not usually used at the end of a clause : Smoking makes you ill. It costs a lot too/as well OR It's also expensive OR Also, it's expensive. 

Use either when you are adding another negative fact : Our first attempt didn't work, and our second didn't either (NOT also didn't)."
